Movie night essentials…and a snow day!

We had an unexpected snow day today, and after a full day of playing in the snow, eating warm soup, and enjoying books by the fireplace, we decided that a movie and popcorn was in order!

Such a super fun family gift!

A number of years back, I did a family gift under the Christmas tree with a new popcorn maker, re-useable popcorn buckets, popcorn kernals…everything for a fun movie night! The girls’ eyes lit up, and I thought this is a good time of year to share this fun family gift idea since the Christmas is right around the corner!

The popcorn maker

These whirly pop type popcorn makers are the bees knees! Since the butter cooks right in with the popcorn, it really does taste like it is from the movie theater. I like to use ghee, coconut oil, or avocado oil in the base of the popcorn maker so that it doesn’t smoke. Then, I add butter to the top to melt in over the top of the popcorn once it starts popping. I have had a couple brands of this type of popcorn maker, and this DASH brand has been the best working one for sure.

The popcorn kernels

Here’s where I get a little picky. Corn is highly sprayed and, unless labeled, it is GMO in the USA. So I always shoot for organic so that it is non-GMO. I really like how THIS BRAND pops, and the price is great.

The popcorn buckets!

These exact buckets are not available anymore since they are older, but I did find a similar look with the same BPA-free material so you can have the same experience! These wash up well (I even put them in the dishwasher!), and have kept so nice for years! Especially when you have little ones, it is nice to portion it out versus a huge bucket so they don’t get a belly ache!

The gift idea!

I was pretty anti-climactic with my gifting presentation. In fact, I don’t even have a Christmas picture of that day! I just set the popcorn maker box with the buckets and kernels out by the Christmas tree. These days, the “burr basket” trend has me thinking I probably should have been more creative! It would be so cute to add some fun cozy wool socks to each bucket. And if you are one of “those” moms like me, even some blue blocking glasses so everyone can watch at night without messing with their sleep! (THESE are my favorite blue blocking glasses. And YES everyone in my house has them, and YES, they wear them for most screen use in our house!)
